Sens. Scrutinize Medical Industry Funding For Doctors

Law360 (October 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Two U.S. senators have asked Columbia University and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation for information on funds the institutions received from pharmaceutical companies in an ongoing push for greater transparency on financial relationships between medical device manufacturers and physicians.

Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Herb Kohl, D-Wis., also requested details on money given to 22 individuals affiliated with the two groups, including three members of CRF's board of directors, according to the joint letters sent Thursday.
