EU Plan For Waste Management: Make Less Waste

Law360, New York (October 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Council on Monday adopted a new framework for waste management in the European Union that emphasizes waste prevention but also encourages energy-efficient waste incineration.

The decision on the new framework was made without discussion by the Environmental Council, made up of environment ministers from the 27 EU countries.

The framework sets out a five-step hierarchy of waste management options that must be applied by member states when developing their national waste policies.
