Report Says Bush Eroded Clean Water Protections

Law360, New York (October 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The majority staff of a congressional committee has found that the Clean Water Act has been “undermined and weakened” by the Bush administration, which it says walked away from federal commitments for improving and repairing the nation's wastewater infrastructure.

The Bush administration also proposed to relax long-held Clean Water Act standards to prevent the discharge of raw or partially-treated sewage into rivers and streams, the majority staff of the U.S. House of Representatives' Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure said in its report.
