Friends Of The Earth Lambastes EU Trade Agreements

Law360, New York (October 21, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- New European Union trade deals with the developing world are "neo-colonialist" and could have a devastating impact on deforestation rates, subsistence farming and food security, according to a report released Monday by the environmental group Friends of the Earth.

The report, titled “Undercutting Africa,” said that Caribbean, Pacific and especially African countries are under increasing pressure to open up their markets and to lift rules that limit the export of logs and other unprocessed raw materials,
