Law360, New York (October 22, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- In a move that could significantly impact the competition rules for shipping liner consortia, the European Commission has decided to open discussions on a proposed regulation that would alter the exemption the shipping industry has long enjoyed from the commission's ban on restrictive business practices.
On Wednesday, the EC announced that it had decided to open consultations on the consortia block exemption Regulation 823/2000, inviting interested parties to comment before Nov. 21.
