New Safety Act Likely Boon For Plaintiffs Lawyers

Law360, New York (October 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Defense lawyers are girding their loins for an uptick in civil litigation thanks to the Consumer Safety Product Improvement Act, which they fear hands plaintiffs firms more ammunition to pursue product liability claims.

The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 was introduced in Congress this past spring in an effort to re-energize the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission and tamp down complaints that the commission was inadequately staffed and funded to enforce existing consumer product safety laws.
