Pilots Ask For More Scrutiny Of DHL-UPS Deal

Law360, New York (October 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Air Line Pilots Association International has asked Congress to further investigate the proposed outsourcing of DHL Express' North American air cargo business to United Parcel Service Inc., saying it will destroy thousands of jobs and hurt competition.

ALPA represents pilots for Ohio-based ASTAR Air Cargo Inc., which is partly owned by DHL and provides some of its services. The union said on Thursday that the proposed deal would effectively shut down ASTAR, along with another current DHL contractor in Ohio, ABX Air Inc.
