HealthSouth Bigwig Loses Appeal In Fraud Case

Law360 (July 12, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. appeals court invalidated for the second time a lower court’s sentencing of former HealthSouth Corp. chief financial officer Michael Martin, saying it was far too lenient for his role in the company’s multi-billion dollar fraud.

In an opinion issued Tuesday, a three-judge panel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit criticized an earlier Alabama district court decision to give Martin only a week in jail.
