Reed Smith Serves Up Layoffs As It Looks To Stay Lean

Law360, New York (January 14, 2016, 4:23 PM EST) -- Reed Smith LLP announced on Thursday that it had launched a restructuring effort, which includes laying off 45 attorneys and related staff, as it looks to stay atop shifting market demand and other industry changes.

The layoffs affected U.S., Europe and Middle East offices and represents under 2.5 percent of Reed Smith’s total attorney population, according to a statement. The layoffs did not affect the firm’s five offices in Asia.

Reed Smith said the decision was sparked by a recent review that it undertook of its staff model to ensure the firm is providing legal services in the most efficient manner....
