New Study Supports Biotech Fears Over USPTO Changes

Law360 (July 13, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- With the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on the brink of implementing proposed changes to continuing application procedures, a new study contends that the amendments will have an adverse effect on the biotechnology and pharmaceutical areas.

Curious about the consequences of the proposed changes, a partner and a science advisor at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati recently launched an investigation to determine whether the modifications would negatively affect the ability of biotech and pharmaceutical innovators to obtain valuable patent coverage, as the industries claim.
