BigLaw Mergers A Missed Chance To Help Close Gender Gap

Law360, New York (January 28, 2016, 7:20 PM EST) -- With law firm merger activity at an all-time high, BigLaw is missing an opportunity to use the deals as a chance to break down roadblocks to the careers of female lawyers and close the gender gap in partnerships, experts and firm leaders said.

U.K. firm Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co. brought that possibility to the fore when it recently unveiled new, significant gender parity goals as it heads into a merger with Canada's Gowlings.

Twenty-seven percent of equity partners at Gowlings are women, far surpassing the figure at its new U.K. partner, which currently stands at 20 percent.
