Crowdfunding Moves Ahead As Portal Registration Kicks Off

Law360, New York (January 29, 2016, 4:23 PM EST) -- The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s new crowdfunding regime moved a step closer Friday to a full launch, when SEC and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority rules inviting online funding portals to apply for registration went into effect.

The commission’s comprehensive crowdfunding rules, approved in October, will not become effective until May 16. But in the meantime, companies hoping to run crowdfunding portals — the online intermediaries between investors and issuers — can officially start the process of becoming FINRA members and registering with the SEC....
