Roche, Sanofi Settle Australian Vitamins Cartel Action

Law360, New York (July 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Australia’s first successful class action lawsuit for cartel violations has garnered a significant settlement from three multinational pharmaceutical companies, marking the latest victory for plaintiffs in the long-running global fight against the vitamins cartel of the 1990s.

The Australian $30.5 million (U.S. $22.8 million)settlement was agreed to by Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche Holding AG, Germany’s BASF AG and France's Sanofi-Aventis SA. The firms were accused of conspiring to overcharge for a variety of vitamin products used for both humans and animals.
