Bio-Rad Settles Lengthy Licensing Dispute

Law360 (July 18, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Biotech company Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc. and bioMérieux, an in-vitro diagnostics maker, have settled a licensing dispute over virus patents.

The dispute was originally between bioMérieux and Pasteur Sanofi Diagnostics, but the California-based research and diagnostics firm Bio-Rad acquired Pasteur Sanofi in 1999 and inherited the dispute.

As part of the settlement, announced Tuesday, France-based bioMérieux granted Bio-Rad a license to use its Epstein-Barr virus patents. The settlement amount is confidential, but Bio-Rad is anticipating a one-time impact on its revenue of $10 to $12 million in...
