Senate Panel To Discuss Hedge Fund Regulation

Law360, New York (July 19, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A month after a federal appeals court barred the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission from regulating hedge funds, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee disclosed plans to hold a hearing about regulating the $1.1 trillion industry.

The hearing will be held on July 25 and a list of witnesses will be announced at a future date, the committee said.

The committee, which oversees the SEC, was pushed into action by Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), chairman of the Banking Securities and Investment Subcommittee.
