Damages Against Ariz. Official Slashed Again

Law360 (November 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal appeals court on Friday further lowered punitive damages against a former Arizona official who abused his power by seeking to block a natural gas utility merger and favoring another merger partner in which he had financial interests despite far less attractive terms.

Rather than remanding the proceedings as it had done previously, a panel of judges in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reduced the damages against James M. Irvin from $4 million to $1.18 million.
