Halliburton Patent Troll App. Raises Questions

Law360, New York (November 12, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Halliburton business method patent application that seeks protection for a technique involving researching a given company's business, patenting aspects of that business and asserting that patent against the company is likely to be rejected by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, according to a veteran patent lawyer.

“I'd be very surprised if this application is not rejected as being an unpatentable business method,” said Michael Barclay, a patent litigator and partner with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, after reviewing the application Wednesday.
