MMS Makes Move For Drilling In Va. Waters

Law360 (November 13, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Minerals Management Service has taken the first step toward leasing waters off the coast of Virginia for oil and natural gas drilling, even though the move could be overturned by the next administration.

In a notice published Thursday in the Federal Register, the MMS announced its intention to prepare an environmental impact statement for a 2.9 million-acre area shaped like a slice of pie that extends from about 50 miles to 183 miles offshore.
