Jon Dudas Takes Reins at USPTO, May Get Nomination

Law360, New York (January 13, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- Jon Dudas took over the reins at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday, after his predecessor resigned to pursue opportunities in the private sector and write his autobiography.

The 35-year-old Dudas, who takes his post under the succession provisions of the 1999 American Inventors Protection Act, is expected to be nominated for the permanent position. He currently serves as Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Acting Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
