Avis Wins Copyright Suit Against Ex-Employee

Law360, New York (July 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A former employee of rental car company Avis Group Holdings Inc. backdated a spreadsheet software program and then wrongly sued the company for copyright infringement, a federal judge ruled Thursday.

In filing a lawsuit against Avis in 2003, Christian J. Wood claimed that his software had generated million of dollars for the company, but that he had never given Avis or its parent company, Cendant Corp., permission to use it.
