Swiss University Sues Synthes In Pilot Case

Law360, New York (July 24, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The University of Berne in Switzerland announced Monday that it has sued Synthes AG for patenting a spine surgery technique invented by one of its researchers.

In the lawsuit filed with the regional court of the Swiss canton of Graubünden, the university said it never transferred any patent rights to Synthes.

“The university of Berne has never transferred its share of those inventions or patents to Synthes…and neither did it ever get financial compensation,” the university said.
