DOL Expands Family Leave, Adds Worker Limits

Law360, New York (November 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The U.S. Department of Labor announced changes to the Family Medical Leave Act on Friday that expand the law’s coverage of military families while also imposing some tighter restrictions on workers, raising the ire of employee advocates.

The new rules, which goes into effect Jan. 17, provide up to 26 work weeks of leave in a 12-month period for family members caring for military service members suffering from a serious injury or illness incurred in the line of duty.
