EU, China Sign Deal To Boost Product Safety Efforts

Law360 (November 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Signaling China’s desire to further alleviate concerns about its exports, the country has signed an agreement with the European Union, vowing to increase consumer safety protections for products shipped to Europe.

Under Monday's agreement, China will make quarterly reports to the EU regarding enforcement actions and other efforts to track down unsafe food and consumer goods, according to the European Commission.

The agreement also provides China with access to improved consumer alert systems, including the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Feed and Food, which distributes notifications...
