Judge Holds Off On Hospital Settlement Approval

Law360, New York (July 25, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A judge postponed a decision Monday on the settlement of a hospital price-gouging lawsuit until September, potentially throwing a wrench in a financial deal affecting as many as 700,000 people.

Interested parties viewed the judge’s delay differently depending on what side of the case—and settlement—they represented.

A Latino advocacy group that has opposed the settlement painted the decision as a huge setback, while hospital group Catholic Healthcare West treated the court’s move as a small blip in a large case.
