Pa. Names Former GE Plant Hazardous Waste Site

Law360 (November 19, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has designated a former General Electric Co. power plant a hazardous waste site after groundwater samples tested positive for a common cleaning solvent that has been linked to several types of cancer.

The DEP is currently testing the property's soil and soil vapor for trichloroethylene, a colorless chemical found in cleaning products, after traces of the known carcinogen were found in groundwater samples on the property in Collingdale, Pa., where a GE static electric power plant once stood.
