Ikea Recalls 670,000 Blinds After Toddler Death

Law360, New York (November 20, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Ikea has voluntarily recalled 670,000 Roman blinds after the death of a toddler who became entangled in the window shade’s cord, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the company announced Thursday.

On April 4, a 1-year-old child from Greenwich, Conn., was fatally strangled by the inner cord of a set of Ikea Roman blinds, according to the CPSC.

The child’s playpen had been placed directly underneath a fully lowered set of blinds, the commission said.
