Ikea Coughs Up $500K Fine Over Recalled Candles

Law360, New York (November 24, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A unit of furniture maker Ikea has agreed to pay $500,000 for allegedly failing to notify the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission that its outdoor candles had a tendency to unexpectedly flare up, posing burn-injury risks to consumers.

The CPSC said Sunday that Pennsylvania-based Ikea North America Services LLC had agreed to pay the penalty, which it said had been provisionally accepted by the commission.
