EU Loses Appeal In Banana Tariff Dispute

Law360 (November 26, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The World Trade Organization's appellate body has upheld an earlier ruling against the European Union, saying its tariffs on banana imports unfairly discriminate against U.S. and Latin American producers.

In a report issued Wednesday, the appellate body found that the United States was not barred from initiating the proceeding and that the EU's duty-free tariff quota for African, Caribbean and Pacific banana-producing countries was inconsistent with global trade rules.
