EU Proposal Targets Harmful Car Fuel Vapors

Law360, New York (December 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission put forth new legislation Thursday that would direct gas stations to begin using equipment that can recover the bulk of the harmful fuel vapors emitted when cars are refueled.

Stage II vapor recovery systems are capable of blocking at least 85 percent of the pollution, which contains benzene, a known cause of cancer, and helps create smog, according to the commission.
