Emphasizing 'Broad Coverage' With ADA Amendments

Law360 (December 4, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- While the nation’s attention was turned to the financial crisis, President Bush took time to sign an important piece of legislation that will have significant consequences for employers.

In response to years of criticism by disability advocacy groups and others of the way that the courts have interpreted the Americans With Disabilities Act (“ADA”), Congress passed, and the president signed, an act amending that law. The amendments are expected to make it easier for certain disabled people to successfully sue employers for disability discrimination.
