BYU, Torion Sue Hitachi Over Spectrometry Patent

Law360 (December 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Brigham Young University and Torion Technologies have sued Hitachi High Technologies America for allegedly willfully infringing a patent related to mass spectrometry.

The complaint, filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, accuses Hitachi of marketing and selling products that infringe the patent even after the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office rejected claims of Hitachi's own patent as anticipated by the BYU technology.

The BYU patent is U.S. Patent Number 7,060,987, titled "electron ionization source for othogonal acceleration of time-of-flight mass spectrometry"...
