Peru Sues Yale For Return Of Incan Artifacts

Law360, New York (December 9, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Peru has sued Yale University, alleging that the university is in violation of United States, Peruvian and international law and has cost Peru millions in revenue in not returning Incan artifacts as promised in agreements reached in 1916.

When explorer Hiram Bingham rediscovered the ancient Incan ruins of Machu Picchu in the early part of the 20th century, he entered into agreements with the Peruvian government that the artifacts he found would be returned to the South American nation.
