Nanotech Panel Faults US Risk Assessment Plan

Law360 (December 10, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A new report from the National Research Council blasts the U.S. government's plan for assessing the health and environmental impacts of nanomaterials, and calls on officials to seek input from both environmentalists and industry groups to develop a more comprehensive approach.

The National Nanotechnology Initiative's research plan fails to provide a clear picture of the current level of understanding regarding the risks of nanotechnology or identify research goals needed to ensure the technology develops safely, an expert committee said in a report released Wednesday.
