Time To Revoke Railroad Antitrust Exemptions: Attys.

Law360 (December 15, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Lawyers are urging the U.S. Congress to revoke long-standing railroad antitrust exemptions, claiming that the immunities benefit small, concentrated interest groups such as railroads and agricultural cooperatives but harm individual consumers, who bear the ultimate burden of higher prices and reduced quality and innovation.

“Antitrust exemptions for the railroad industry — and other long-standing exemptions and immunities — do not appear to be justified by any noncompetition-related value,” the American Bar Association's Section of Antitrust Law said last week in comments it submitted to both chambers...
