US Presses China On Insurance Cybersecurity Rules At WTO

Law360, New York (June 6, 2016, 4:20 PM EDT) -- The U.S. government has formally questioned China about the legality of its proposed cybersecurity rules for the insurance sector, which appear to require the use of domestic technology over that of foreign providers, according to a World Trade Organization document circulated Friday.

In a meeting of the WTO's Committee on Trade-Related Investment Measures, the U.S. sought more information about China's draft insurance rules finalized in April, which call for insurers to prioritize the use of "secure and controllable" technology while also encouraging "indigenous" research and development...
