Budvar Wins A Round In Epic Bud Trademark Fight

Law360, New York (December 16, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A European court has handed Czech brewer Budejovicky Budvar NP a win in its century-long battle with Anheuser-Busch InBev NV over the trademark for the word “Bud” on beer.

The European Court of First Instance ruled Tuesday that the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market, the European Union's trademark agency, erred when it rejected Budvar's opposition to Anheuser-Busch's application for EU-wide trademark on the word “Bud.”
