European Parliament Greenlights Climate Plan

Law360, New York (December 17, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Parliament has overwhelmingly approved an ambitious new climate change package, five days after the European Council agreed to a final compromise on the long-awaited energy plan.

On Wednesday, the European Parliament voted to back the EU's climate change proposal, which calls for emissions cuts by 2020.

The “20-20-20” plan calls for a 20 percent improvement in energy efficiency, a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and 20 percent of the EU's energy use to come from renewable sources.
