JBS Sued Over Discharge Violations At Beef Plant

Law360, New York (December 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- JBS Souderton Inc., a subsidiary of global beef processing titan JBS SA, has been sued for allegedly dumping waste at its Pennsylvania facility in violation of the plant’s discharge permit and the Clean Water Act.

Laurie Magid, the acting U.S. attorney for eastern Pennsylvania, filed the suit Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, claiming the Souderton beef processing plant routinely exceeded limits in its clean water permit, discharging fecal coliform, phosphorus and ammonia in quantities that led to several fish...
