USDA Creates New Environment-Focused Agencies

Law360 (December 30, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- Establishing what some observers call a “framework” for future conservation planning by agricultural landowners, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced plans to create a federal Office of Ecosystem Services and Markets and a Conservation and Land Management Environmental Services Board.

The new entities, announced by the agency on Monday, will aid the secretary of agriculture in developing new technical guidelines for assessing the benefits for environmental protection measures, which could be used to help further programs for mitigating climate change.
