Mandatory Retirement Legal For Partners: UK Court

Law360, New York (January 5, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Law firms in the United Kingdom can enforce mandatory retirement ages for partners, a British court has ruled in the landmark case of a lawyer in Kent, England, who was forced to retire in 2006 at the age of 65.

But the individual lawyer who sued is entitled to justification from a lower court as to why his firm chose the age of 65, according to the ruling by the country's Employment Appeal Tribunal in London.
