NMFS Fails To Protect Marine Mammals: Report

Law360, New York (January 7, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A report by congressional investigators has taken the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service to task for doing little to prevent marine mammals from being hurt or killed by commercial fishers.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office released a report on Wednesday that found that the NMFS had neglected to establish groups of experts to look after 14 of the 30 marine mammals that are supposed to receive protection under federal law.
