CoreValve Beats Edwards' Infringement Suit In UK

Law360, New York (January 9, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- A U.K. court has ruled that CoreValve Inc. has not infringed a patent belonging to rival Edwards Lifesciences Corp. on transcatheter heart valve technology, agreeing with a German court's ruling last fall.

In the same decision, the U.K. Patent Court upheld the validity of Edwards' patent, known as the Andersen patent, both companies announced Friday.

The patent-at-issue is co-owned by Dr. Henning Rud Andersen of Aarhus, Denmark, and his colleagues, who in 1993 licensed it to Heartport Inc., which is now a Johnson & Johnson unit....
