Oil Co. To Shell Out $1.3M Over Leaky Pipeline

Law360, New York (January 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Shell Chemical Yabucoa Inc. has agreed to pay roughly $1.3 million to settle charges a faulty wastewater pipeline from a petrochemical plant in Puerto Rico polluted the Caribbean Sea.

Under the consent decree, filed jointly with the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, Shell will fork over more than $1 million in fines and spend roughly $275,000 to strengthen pollution controls and remedy its violations of the Clean Water Act.
