Politicized DOJ Hiring Practices Flouted Law: Report

Law360, New York (January 13, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Hiring decisions at the U.S. Department of Justice were illegally influenced by political ideology, with top officials seeking to hire conservatives and rejecting attorneys deemed “libs” and “pinkos,” an internal investigation by the department has found.

The report by DOJ Inspector General Glenn Fine, which was completed last year and made public on Tuesday, focuses on one official in particular, former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Bradley Schlozman, and concludes that he violated the Civil Service Reform Act and Justice policies barring discrimination based on political affiliations....
