CPSC Proposes Exemptions To New Lead Limits

Law360, New York (January 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- Taking its cue from the European Union, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has proposed that certain children's electronic products be exempt from the stiff lead limits required by a new product safety law set to take effect next month.

On Wednesday, the agency filed a notice of proposed rulemaking on the Federal Register, seeking to suspend certain lead restrictions for a number of children's items that would fall under the purview of the recently-passed Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act.
