AIG Unit Pushes For Arbitration In Massey Dispute

Law360 (January 15, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- American International Specialty Lines Insurance Co. is asking a federal court to force Massey Energy Co. into arbitration aimed at settling a dispute over coverage of a 2007 judgment against the company that totaled nearly $220 million.

In the suit, filed Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, AISLIC, a unit of American International Group Inc., said that a clause in the liability insurance Massey purchased requires any disputes regarding coverage to be settled in binding arbitration.
