MS Windows, Explorer Bundle Anti-Competitive: EU

Law360, New York (January 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The European Commission has once again set its sights on Microsoft Corp., threatening to fine the software giant for abusing its dominant market position by bundling its Internet Explorer Web browser with the Windows operating system.

The EC, which has already fined Microsoft €1.68 billion for antitrust violations related to its tying of Windows Media Player software to Windows, said in a statement that it had reached a preliminary conclusion that bundling Windows and Internet Explorer harms competition and reduces consumer choice.
