Fed. Circ. Backs Apple’s PTAB Win In Caller ID Patent Case

Law360, New York (September 22, 2016, 5:58 PM EDT) -- The Federal Circuit on Thursday upheld a re-examination decision invalidating several claims of a patent covering a caller ID system that verbally announces the names of callers, which has been asserted against Apple, Samsung and many others.

The appeals court affirmed a decision by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in an inter partes re-examination of ClassCo Inc.’s patent requested by Apple, ruling that the patent is obvious in view of two previous patents.
