Obama Taps Retired Latham Partner For DOI Post

Law360, New York (January 26, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- President Barack Obama has nominated David J. Hayes, the retired global chairman of Latham & Watkins LLP's environment, land and resources department, to be deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior, in a move lauded by environmental conservation groups.

On Monday, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar officially announced the nomination of Hayes, who held the same position in the Department of the Interior under the Clinton administration between 1999 and 2001.
