Sherwin-Williams Slashes $40M Suit Over Ikea Coatings

By Jack Newsham (September 30, 2016, 9:28 PM EDT) -- A Tennessee federal judge wiped out three-quarters of a $40 million suit brought by a former Ikea contractor against The Sherwin-Williams Co. over supply deals on Friday, clearing the paint-and-coatings company of acting "intentionally, fraudulently, maliciously or recklessly" while noting many facts are still disputed.

Oddello Industries LLC sued Sherwin-Williams in 2014 for allegedly supplying low-quality coatings and paint that caused it to lose business from global furniture giant Ikea of Sweden AB. But U.S. District Judge J. Ronnie Greer tossed out some $30 million of the $40 million in damages Oddello sought, saying Cleveland, Ohio-based Sherwin-Williams demonstrated that it made...
